The Island
The facts that matter
- Location
- In the Irish Sea, midway between England, Ireland, Scotland and Wales. Central in the world time zones, so Island businesses can reach most of the world inside a normal working day.
- Government
- Tynwald, the Island’s parliament, has over 1,000 years of unbroken rule — the oldest continuously operating government in the world. That stability is what lets policy support the economy over the long term.
- Legal system
- A common law jurisdiction closely similar to the United Kingdom, with ultimate right of appeal to the Sovereign’s Privy Council.
- Language
- English. The Manx language is Celtic and is now heard mainly on ceremonial occasions and in the home.
- Population
- Just over 84,000 at the last census — small for the size of the Island.
- Financial status
- One of the leading offshore international finance centres, with modern, well-structured and well-regulated financial services legislation.
Tax
A tax position worth considering
The Island's regime is a large part of why businesses and families move here. The headline points are simple enough to state plainly.

- Close connections to the UK and Europe
